American Samoa consists of several islands in the eastern portion of the Samoan archipeligo. The Samoan islands were first settled by immigrants from the Lau Islands in Fiji, approximately 3,500 years ago.

Samoans are some of the nicest people. They are the shirt-off-your-back type of people. If anything, being the "new" person, you'll have an advantage. Samoans tend to go overboard when trying to make new people feel welcomed.

Some people who go there tend to say that the people are "poor", but it's far from the truth. Everything might not be shiney new, but the people are rich in every aspect of their life. They follow the faa'samoa way. They are truly happy people. But, most of the Samoans are trying to get over to the mainland.

The cost of living is really cheap! Housing wise, especially. However, some things that are needed to be imported tend to be pricier then in the states. The land is not easily up for grabs. It's all basically family owned, they try to keep it within Samoan Blood.

Samoa's political and legal system (Fono) is a combination of a modern day parliament and an elaborate ancient tribal system, known as faa' Samoa, meaning Samoan way.
