Poland Special Days and Fun Holidays

Poland is located in the central area of Europe. Poland is a great holiday destination which is quite affordable and also it is worth holidaying in Poland during any season of the year.

Poland remains evergreen for the entire year. Czorsztyn pond in Malpolska blossoms during the autumn season which is quite a spectacle. It is ideal for people with a limited holiday budget. Self service accommodation is very reasonable and eating from the outside restaurants will also be quite affordable. Beer lovers have good news as the prices are very cheap of the best beers. Public transportation in Poland is almost free as the fares are very meagre. Poland is a safe place and not too expensive.

One interesting special Poland day is All Soul's Day in November. While it's a common Catholic holiday, in Poland it's strongly observed, and everyone comes to light colored candle jars in front of graves of their loved ones, and also those whose graves are old, dilapidated or forgotten. The spectacle is amazing, and the whole cemetery is flooded in brilliant lights. It's a continuation of a very old ritual dating back a couple thousand years.

Another holiday is Saint John's Kupala, in which people jump over fires, a tradition predating Christianity.

During Wianki (Vyanki) people go to the riverbanks and float wreaths with candles on them on the water. The sight is marvelous there too. If it floats to a woman on the other side, she'll find love. If it circles three times, she'll be unlucky with her love life.

In the city of Wroclaw, there is an annual medieval festival, including jousts, horse archery, medieval dances and other activities.

There's also an event called Smigus Dyngus, celebrated every Easter Monday. Early in the morning, the boys pour water on their friends and family, especially the girls. The girls get to chase the boys with vines and whip them. Massive hydro-chaos ensues with city-wide water fights with balloons and hoses.

Marzenna is when people weave straw dolls and decorate them with ribbons. These represent the end of winter, and the beginning of spring. When the snow starts to melt, they proclaim the beginning of spring and chuck the Marzennas into the river or stream, thus 'killing' the winter.

There's also a load of music festivals (rock and alternative music are especially popular, and also classical, like Chopin), big arthouse film festivals and sports festivals.
