ENTRY REQUIREMENTS : A passport and visa are required, as is evidence of a yellow fever vaccination. For persons who are traveling from countries that do not have a Liberian embassy or consulate, an airport entry visa may be obtained, but the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization must authorize the visa in advance of arrival.
Getting There & Around : The only international airport is located 40 miles outside of Monrovia, and there is no public transportation available from the airport to the city. Flights from Europe are rare; most connections to Monrovia are from Freetown, Lagos and Abidjan. Ask your hotel to arrange transportation for you from the airport, and try to arrive during daylight hours. Around the city, you can travel by share-taxi or private taxi. Bush taxis run between Monrovia and the Sierra Leone border, and you can also travel to and from Monrovia via Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea.
Accommodation : Secure accommodation with running water and electricity can be hard to come by and expensive. Mamba Point Hotel was the main place for expats and journalists to hole up during the war, and this hotel remains popular with foreign travelers for its 24/7 electricity, on-site restaurants and Wi-Fi in select areas. Other hotels can be found in the Mamba Point area and along Tubman Boulevard. Make sure your hotel will arrange airport pickup for you, if needed.

Liberia’s wildlife is quite fascinating as there are a variety of animals to see. For instance, Sapo National Park offers visitors the chance to see hippopotami, baboons, crocodiles, colobus monkeys, chimpanzee, buffalo, white-spotted nose monkey, elephants, antelopes, mongoose, tortoise, leopards, and vipers. In terms of fauna, white-breasted Guinea fowl, Xenomystus nigri and White-necked Rock fowl should never be missed on your Liberian holiday.
Swimming, fishing and boating can also be considered on your holiday in Liberia because there are several beaches and rivers. For fishing, Lake Piso, just 80km from Monrovia, is arguably the best place. For swimming and boating, travelers can consider Bernard’s Beach, Cedar Beach, Elwa Beach, Kenema Beach, Caesar’s Beach and Sugar Beach. Silver Beach is a beautiful Liberian beach, located minutes from the center of Liberia’s capital, Monrovia.
